Gouda and Groenlo
To increase the liveability, economic and vitality significantly, the cities of Gouda and Groenlo both wished to regulate the amount of traffic movements in their city centre. Reducing the volume of motorized vehicles resulted into pedestrian friendly and safe zones for tourists and citizens. Nedap’s system takes the dynamic aspects of city traffic into account. Residents, retailers, suppliers, taxis and emergency services have tailor made access to the heart of both cities, suited to their needs.
For Nedap, the companies ST&D and BAM Infra are experienced installation partners of systems for restricted vehicle access control in cities in the Netherlands. ST&D installed the system in Groenlo, where Nedap’s headquarter is also located, and BAM Infra did the same in the city of Gouda, world famous for its cheese. Both cities attract a large number of tourists to their historic city center every year.
Vehicle access zone
In the past decade, Nedap has successfully implemented restricted vehicle access zones in a large number of cities in the Netherlands. The vehicle access control system enables selective vehicle target groups with a valid permit to enter the city centre automatically, securely and conveniently. The system offers a high degree of flexibility in granting access rights to vehicles, based on need, route, destination and time of day.
At each gate various technologies for identification and communication are installed. They are locally integrated and remotely controlled. Long-range RFID technology and license plate readers are used to identify vehicles. A vehicle management controller (VMC) is connected to barriers, traffic lights, RFID and ANPR readers and controls their activity. The VMC hardware layout and purpose built embedded software enables a clean installation that is easily maintained.
“With VMC in place, we are fully in control of all vehicle access gates. The technology in operation is accurate, stable and reliable which gives us as municipality the desired reputation. With this Nedap solution we are able to offer our clients customized vehicle access, based on their specific needs. VMC is completely transparent about when and where all events take place. And if something happens, the right person receives an alert with the information about the event. Timely communication and the extensive legal log prevents financial surprises for the city itself.” Jack Terlouw, representative of the city of Gouda
