Nedap expands its long-range identification portfolio with an external UHF antenna and OSDP protocol converter. With these additions, Nedap continues to innovate the leading long-range vehicle and people identification platforms.

uPASS Target Antenna

With the new uPASS Target Antenna, Nedap introduces an external antenna for the uPASS Target. The uPASS Target is a long-range UHF reader that identifies vehicles, people and rolling stock at distances up to 10 meters. The uPASS Target Antenna extends the read-range of the uPASS Target reader for a wider scope. Additionally, the external antenna can be used in situations where reading of both vehicle entry and exit lanes is required. Typical applications for uPASS Target Antenna combined with the uPASS Target reader are:

  • Bus depots
  • Car park facilities
  • Internal logistics
  • Industrial operations
  • Automated truck activities

PCC485 OSDP protocol converter

Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) is an industry standard for secure communication of RFID readers and other devices with access control panels. With the introduction of the PCC485, Nedap’s reader portfolio for long-range RFID now fully supports the OSDP protocol, ensuring a secure communication. The PCC485 is an OSDP protocol converter for Nedap’s TRANSIT and uPASS readers.

Tyco Security Products introduces the integration of NEDAP vehicle and driver identification technology with the C•CURE 9000 security and event management solution, part of Tyco Security Products’ complete physical access control solution.

When integrated with the C•CURE 9000 security and event management solution, Nedap identification readers can identify vehicles and/or people from long-range distances, making the readers ideal for parking access applications, managing logistics and for weighing installations and mining safety applications. Nedap’s identification systems ensure that only vehicles with authorized drivers can access restricted areas while keeping traffic moving through access gates. Vehicles and their operators can be authorized for entry while their vehicles are still moving, and can be identified by the readers through closed windows, increasing passenger safety and overall efficiency.

The C•CURE 9000-integrated Nedap identification solution uses UHF tags that can be deployed as passive, battery-operated tags. The UHF tags can be read from distances up to 10m and use a circular polarized antenna to provide freedom of tag placement and orientation. Nedap’s license plate reader automatically reads number license plates and uses an all-in-one camera, analyzer and IR illuminator. The reader is embedded with onboard processing software that can be configured through a web interface and has a range of up to 5.7m. The Nedap reader supports a large range of IR-reflective license plates, including most European countries.

“The Nedap Identification Systems solution is an integral component in our intelligent physical access control portfolio. With the integration of Nedap with C•CURE 9000, we offer the most convenient and secure solution for identifying vehicles and persons entering and exiting your protected area.” Rafael Schrijvers, Access Control Product Marketing Manager, EMEA, Tyco Security Products

The Nedap readers feature easy installation and user set up and can be configured through a web interface. Optional Wiegand Interface Module for the camera is also included.

Nedap, global leader in automatic vehicle identification and parking detection technology, launches the uPASS Target. This high-end RFID reader offers long-range identification using the Rain RFID (UHF EPC Gen II) Standard. With the uPASS Target, Nedap further expands its leading UHF platform for long-range vehicle and people identification. During the Intersec exhibition in Dubai, from 17th  – 19th  January, the uPASS Target will be demonstrated to the market.

The introduction of the uPASS Target is Nedap’s reply to the growing demand for high performance UHF readers in applications where vehicles and other moving objects should be identified automatically using passive RFID tags. The new UHF RFID reader offers a read range of up to 10 meters (33 ft.) which makes it a solid solution for long-range identification of vehicles, people and rolling stock at industrial sites and logistic depots.

Modern and high-end RFID reader

“We have promised our partners and clients that we would actively support the Rain RFID (UHF) standard and that we would maintain our position as a market leading innovator in the RFID arena. This new release is proof of that. The uPASS Target offers the performance and functionality that our clients can expect from a modern and high-end RFID reader, but it also is compatible with the interfacing engine that is available for all our readers. This makes it effortless to integrate with the access control, parking management and other systems of our partners.” Maarten Mijwaart, General Manager of Nedap Identification Systems

Advanced features

The uPASS Target identifies vehicles and drivers at a distance of up to 10 meters (33 ft.) by using passive UHF RFID technology (±900 MHz). Standard features include configurable 3 color LED indication, robust housing with modern design, support of common industry interfacing standards (IP, Serial, Wiegand), optional connection of second external antenna, read range limitation option, reader output formatting and easy installation. The circular polarized antenna offers orientation freedom when offering tags.

The uPASS Target offers a variety of industry-standard communication interfaces. It ensures a seamless integration with any existing or new third party system for access control, logistic operations, security and parking.

Nedap will demonstrate its new high-end reader during Intersec Dubai (17-19 January) at booth S1-D25. Contact us to find out more about the uPASS Target.

To ensure reliable and convenient automatic vehicle identification (AVI) in situations where windshield mounted UHF tags are not applicable, Nedap expands its UHF tag portfolio with the new UHF Exterior Tag.

The UHF Exterior Tag is a headlight mounted tag that offers vehicle identification up to a distance of 10 meters (33 ft) with uPASS Target or 5 meters (16 ft) with uPASS Reach.  The tag is based on passive UHF technology, making it battery and maintenance free. For added security, the UHF Exterior Tag is a transparent and tamper proof adhesive. The chip inside the tag is protected against harmful UV rays.

The right solution

The UHF Exterior Tag is the right solution in situations where the entire vehicle windshield is metalized or covered by solar film with metal particles. Additionally, the UHF Exterior Tag is suitable for convenient access control of motorbikes, scooters and mopeds. Typical applications include straightforward access to car parks, gated communities, condominiums and campuses.
