ANPR technology

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is designed for vehicle access applications to facilitate streamlined vehicle access control in situations where vehicles need to be granted entry temporarily or incidentally. Functioning as the alternative to RFID tags, an ANPR system allows for quick and easy vehicle identification over short or longer ranges. Find out if ANPR is the perfect solution for your situation.

About ANPR

What is ANPR?

ANPR stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition and comprises the technology of vehicle identification by number plate. With the implementation of automatic number plate recognition cameras, the technology is able to scan a number plate and forward the accompanying action to the gate’s system. This allows for a modernized version of vehicle access control, eliminates the need for RFID tags when the circumstances are not suited for RFID technology and limits the need for human workforce given the standalone character of ANPR technology.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition applications

The applications of ANPR are multifold. Find out how a variety of situations made use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition and experience the versatility and ease from first-hand examples.

Nedap’s ANPR Lumo camera

The ANPR Lumo is our  all-in-one license plate camera, including embedded software, analyzer and IR illuminator. With a range of action of 2 to 10 meters (6.5 to 33 feet), the advanced camera ensures a smooth recognition of vehicles based on license plate. In addition, the ANPR Lumo supports RS485, Wiegand and Ethernet and is OSDP V2 supported (including secure channel protocol).

Typical applications include vehicle access control, automatic toll collection, free flow applications at parking facilities or other situations in which it not desirable to issue RFID tags. If vehicles need to be granted access temporarily or incidentally, the license plate camera is the perfect solution.

High accuracy

Deep learning algorithms enable a high accuracy in both regions with common license plate formats, like Europe, and non-standardized license plate formats, such as the USA and Pacific region. In addition, the ANPR Lumo is able to recognize ADR Hazard Identification Numbers (HIN), also known as Kemler Codes, that are used for road transport of dangerous goods.
