More than 700 employees in Madrid
The company provides its solutions globally and operates several offices. One of these offices is situated in Madrid, Spain, where more than 700 employees work in a hybrid setup. Therefore the office can only accommodate 400 employees physically. Despite having a sizable parking lot, it can only fit 150 vehicles. To ensure equitable and efficient parking for the employees, they utilize a booking system, integrated in C-Cure 9000, the access control solution of Johnson Controls. The effectiveness of this system is of utmost importance.
A lack of user-friendliness and safety
Despite the booking system working excellently, the site was secured using traditional card readers and therefore lacked user-friendliness and safety. The card readers required drivers to come to a complete stop, roll down their windows, and present the access card in front of the reader to open the barrier. This was causing traffic jams and a poor user experience. Furthermore, the office building is located on a narrow street, which added to the safety concerns when congestion arose in the public street.
Long-range identification to improve the process
To speed up the process and improve user experience, Johnson Controls decided to implement long-range vehicle identification. They chose Nedap’s ANPR Lumo readers for this purpose. Cameras were installed at both the entrance and exit, capable of reading and verifying license plates from distances ranging between 2 to 10 meters. ANPR Lumo is an all-in-one, advanced license plate camera for fast vehicle identification and access control, and in this case seamlessly integrated with Johnson Controls own C-Cure access control system.
“Thanks to the new system, garage access is now instantaneous. I no longer need to search for the access card, as the reader instantly recognizes my license plate and grants me entry. Before this system was implemented, forgetting my card meant I had to locate the security guard, provide my details, and wait for access approval from my company’s Facilities or HR department. I recall instances when numerous cars were stuck on the street due to such incidents.”
